30 Ways in 30 Days {My journey to play}
I am the queen of setting up and planning activities for my kids. Anyone who has been to our place and seen the mounds of activities that we have would tell you the same. I am also pretty good at sitting back and watching the kids, making sure to take a few pictures while I am at it.
What I’m not always good at, is seeing the value of playing with them.
After writing this post, I challenged myself to put my words into action.
Why not take advantage of our lighter school load, and easy summer schedule to incorporate more mom+kid play. So here it is: Find one way to play with the kids each and every day this month. It does not have to cost money, or be well planned out. Just take time to play with them.
This is my journey to play:
#1: Played with bubbles.
#2: Drew with sidewalk chalk.
#3: Played dress up.
#4: Played house.
#5: Ran through the sprinklers.
#6: Played in the Slip ‘N Slide….yes I did!
#7: Played freeze-tag. Many times.
#8: Painted with eye droppers.
#9: Painted with watercolors.
#10: Painted with marbles.
#11: Colored in coloring books.
#12: Built marble towers.
#13: Played card games: crazy 8’s, UNO, and Slamwhich to name a few…
#14: Built robots out of cards.
#15: Made jewelry together; simple bead necklace strands.
#16: Tied friendship bracelets for each other. (Okay, so this was mostly me….)
#17: Went on a bug hunt. (This was a real stretch for me….)
#18: Went on lots of bike rides.
#19: Went on a Nature Walk.
#20: Built with Legos, Duplos, and blocks of all kinds.
#21: Played baseball.
#22: Played catch.
#23: Played soccer.
#24: Had lots of picnic lunches with story hour.
#25: Played with balloons.
#26: Danced crazy-like with each kid, nearly every day.
#27: Played with baby dolls, Barbies, and princesses.
#28: Played with Play-doh.
#29: Played Animal Scramble and Hyperdash.
#30: Had egg-races.
I think it's the start of a great new habit for me.
What about you? How do you play with your kids?
How fun!!! Yay for playing with your kids, I love it! I'm impressed that you got on the slip and slide. I bet the kids loved it!
ReplyDeleteThey were shocked! I have a picture - but I was too chicken to post it!
