Starting year 8: Zoology

It felt really good to be back into the swing of school.

The girls have been eagerly anticipating this fun unit to kick off the new school year.  I can hardly believe it’s our family’s 8th year of homeschooling…

It’s always a bit painful to start lessons after summer break.  Probably the most fuss occurs over math lessons for Elaina and Reading lessons for Olivia.  It’s funny how opposite they are in school.  We have a bit of “catching” up to do, so we blazed full speed ahead the beginning of September.  I’m hoping we can maintain this momentum for a while.

We’ve covered similar aspects that we did when the boys were this age and studying Zoology, using my Sick Day for Amos McGee pack. (See the post here)

This is one of my favorite Art projects: Block Stamping.  The illustrator of Amos McGee uses this technique in her books.  The girls did a fantastic job!

We ended the unit with a Camouflage experiment from the Apologia Science book we are using.
