Peek at our Week {the one with the Chicken Pox}

What a week.

I should be used to it by now, but life is never dull aroun here.

I mentioned last week, that Olivia came down with Chicken Pox.  She really did pretty well, and seemed to have a fairly mild case of it.  We’ve kept an eye out for Elaina each day, checking for spots and quizzing her about being itchy.  On Wednesday we noticed one little spot on her head that was oozy and itchy and expected after that to see a lot more.  But still nothing else has shown up.

Olivia spent the week attached to Elaina, following her around like a lost puppy.  Elaina was so sweet to entertain her and baby her while she wasn’t feeling the greatest.  It really melts my heart to see my kids being compassionate to one another.  Especially, since some days it seems like all they do is fight…

I’m sure you can’t relate to that.

I’m so proud of Elaina for her hard work this week!  She learned “_an” words, practiced her time-telling skills, and learned to skip count by 10’s.  She was really helpful with Olivia too, so that I could get some extra lessons in with the boys.

Both of the boys are in new territory in math.  Looks like we will be buying new books for them next week!

We’ve moved onto the French/Indian wars in our Early American History.  The boys are learning about wigwams and longhouses, and the various animals that were hunted for their fur.  Isaac thinks the funniest thing about the Native Americans was their wardrobe, or lack thereof…

I think when your eight, being naked is just funny.  It sure does give him the giggles. Winking smile

This part of the week was a lot less funny:

I knew going into it, because I had glanced ahead, that it would be an interesting couple of days as we navigated through Genesis 17.  In case you are unfamiliar, this is the part where God commands Abram, and all of the males of his household, to be circumcised.

Lots of whispers, quite a few giggles, and eventually some worried questions followed my simple explanation.  And then Isaac confessed with very open certainty, that he wasn’t sure he was old enough for this kind of discussion, and please would I never, ever talk to him about private parts again.

Oh I wish it were that easy, son.  You have no idea what’s yet to come

The best part was hands down later that night, when to Saul’s shock and surprise, Nate asked him if he had been circumcised, and I thought ooops…probably should have warned him about that….

hahahaha!

Isaac lost his “lucky” extra tooth.  Now he has an extra large hole in his mouth.

We had lots of yummy food this week.  I tried out a new recipe called Monkey Squares that was awesome!  We also had Cream Cheese Enchiladas, homemade Calzones, and Zuppa Toscana

Lots of cooking though, means lots of dishes. I really don’t like doing dishes.

Saturday I tried out Bountiful Baskets for the first time.  It seems like a good value, and I think I’ll try it again.

This weekend Saul has to work.  The kids and I are just hanging out and keeping pretty low-key.  I need a chance to get caught back up with laundry, and I have some baking that I need to do.  That’s pretty much it for us.

What’s new with you?

Linking up with WUHS.

How are you teaching telling time? I'm lost and Josie didn't get my super confusing explanation!

Chicken Pox...now that is not something you hear of very much, anymore. I love that picture of you and your daughter. As a matter of fact, so many of your photos are wonderful. I hope you'll consider adding this post to my end of the week link up, Its a Wrap. -Savannah www.hammocktracks.com
